Rice-Producing Akita is the Land of Sake

Akita Prefecture has long been one of Japan’s leading rice-producing regions and is truly a kingdom of fine sake, standing out in both production and consumption of sake. The history of the brewing industry is ancient; the oldest brewery in the prefecture, Hiraizumi in Nikaho, was founded in 1487 and is known as the third oldest brewery in Japan. Records show that in 1726, the region boasted as many as 833 breweries.

Ask Me Anything About Sake!

Kentaro, the owner of Kinoshitaya Yoshinari, was born and raised in Kakunodate. He is well-versed not only in Kakunodate but also in Akita’s sake. You can learn about the individuality of each brewery, the characteristics of the sake, and even unexpected ways to enjoy drinking it.

Expand Your Ways of Knowing and Enjoying Sake
