The Dreamlike Scenery Created by the River Mist of Mugenkyo

When certain conditions come together—early mornings and evenings in summer, or just after rain—a pure white river mist completely blankets the river surface in the gorge. The sight of the surrounding lush green mountains and scenery like an ink-wash painting emerging from the mist is truly breathtaking. A nostalgic landscape unfolds, completely cut off from the bustle of everyday life, as if you have wandered into another world.

A Journey on a Traditional Hand-Rowed Boat Steered by a Boatman

Gliding gently along the Tadami River is a quiet, hand-rowed wooden boat with no engine noise. A skilled boatman deftly works the wooden oar while warmly sharing stories about the surrounding nature and local history. Listening to the soothing sound of water and birdsong echoing in the silence, you can enjoy about 45 minutes of luxurious, soul-soothing time.

Explore a Remote Abandoned Village Reachable Only by Boat

Crossing to the opposite bank by wooden boat, you will land at the site of Mifuke, a remote village where people once lived. This approx. 90-minute plan takes you to Mugen-an, a historic old house that still stands today, as well as a shrine and more. Enjoy the nostalgic scenery of rural Japan with all five senses. The greatest appeal of this tour is that, in addition to the boat ride, you can actually explore this remote area on foot. *Cruise & Walk Plan
